Biography
From 1930 until 1959, Bert was very active as a coach and
administrator. He was President of the St. Andrews Basketball Club from
1934 thru 1939. At the same time, he was Chairman of the Sunday School
Basketball League.

From 1941 to 1945, Bert operated the Manitoba junior and
juvenile basketball tournaments, and in 1942 and 1943 was the Director
of the Y.M.C.A. Basketball Leagues.

Between 1935 and 1950, Bert served on the Executive of the Manitoba
Basketball Association. He was President from 1943 to 1947. From 1943
to 1956, he was Manitoba's representative to the Canadian Amateur
Basketball Association. He was President of the C.A.B.A. in 1952 and
1953. He also served as the Basketball Commissioner for the M.A.B.A.
from 1954 to 1959. He also worked with the Manitoba Referees
Association in the administration of certification exams.

During this entire period, Bert also coached, starting in 1933
when he coached a winning team in St. Jude's Intermediate Sunday School
League. Between 1939 and 1949, he coached in the Junior League, winning
several championships. While coaching the Lazy "L" Juniors, he took the
Gordon Bell High School Varsity to several City and Provincial
Championships. He coached for the next ten years in the Winnipeg "Y"
Intermediate League.
