    Dennis Alvestad was one of the most successful coaches in Manitoba basketball history. A graduate of Glenlawn Collegiate, he began his teaching/coaching career at Norberry Junior High School in 1961 where he coached many sports. In 1964, he moved to Dakota Collegiate where he built a very successful Varsity Girls program. He led the Lancers to four MHSAA ‘AAAA’ Provincial Championships in 1976, 1977, 1979 and 1984 as well as many Cloverleaf Conference zone championships. Following his retirement, Dennis officiated basketball for many years. During his entire career as a coach and official, he preached a philosophy of good sportsmanship and fair competition for all players and coaches. He also served as a basketball clinician where he organized and participated in many coaching clinics for young coaches mostly in the St. Vital area. He also coached and supervised high school students in the Hoops BeeBall program offered in core area elementary schools in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
