Biography
Rod began officiating basketball games in 1959. Over the years, he has officiated at all levels of play: junior high, high school, university, and both junior and senior.

Shortly after becoming an active referee, Rod became involved in the administrative and teaching components of officiating. It is in these two areas that he has made a significant contribution to the development of basketball officiating in Manitoba.

Since the formation of the Manitoba Association of Basketball Officials, Rod has served in various positions on the MABO executive. He has always been a strong proponent of looking outside the province for new information about how to improve officiating in Manitoba. The result was the development of an exchange programme with other provinces at the high school and university levels.

In 1974, Rod attended the charter meeting of the Canadian Association of Basketball Officials (CABO). For a number of years, he served not only as chairman of the awards committee, but also as an assignor/evaluator at a variety of national championships.

He continues to be involved in the ongoing development of officials in Manitoba. Rod is the Director of Clinics for the MABO and, as a board member of Basketball Manitoba, he is responsible for clinics for
developing officials throughout the province. He also continues to serve as an evaluator to provide feedback to active officials.
