    '78.

One of the few players to make the Canadian National Team out of high school in 1973, Martin was a member of the 1976 team that placed fourth at the Montreal Olympics. He was captain of the 1980
Olympic team. Unfortunately, because of the boycott of the Moscow Olympics, Canada did not participate. Martin also represented Canada at the 1974 and 1978 World Championships, 1975 and 1979 Pan American Games, and the 1977 and 1979 World University Games.

He was also a member of Nicolett Inn that won the Canadian Senior Men's Championship in 1979 and 1980. Martin played professionally in Argentina in the 1980-81 season.

Martin has also been inducted into both the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the Canada Basketball Hall of Fame.

    1. I recall meeting Martin Riley on the court as a senior at St. Paul's High School. During our varsity pre season tune up, our coach (Nick Laping) arranged an informal scrimmage with the grade 9/10 team from Sisler. Of course, we thought that we would totally hammer them but they had this guy Martin Riley who could not be stopped and made us look pretty bad. After the game, I recall this sub six foot grade 10er dunking the basketball on the way out of the gym. Not sure if Nick got played by Sisler or whether he knew what was coming and wanted to get our attention. Very much enjoyed watching Martin Riley's career unfold. I would put his ability to bank shots off the boards (a lost art) right up there with the great Elvin Hayes.
