It is with great sadness that Basketball Manitoba and the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame marks the passing of Roman Dobriansky who died suddenly on September 7, 2023 at age 64. Roman was true North End boy who started his basketball career at St. John's High School where he starred with the Tigers. After high school, he played two seasons, 1977-78 and 1978-79 with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen under Coach Bruce Enns. He also represented Manitoba as a member of our provincial team one summer.

Basketball shaped Roman to be the man he was, and it will continue to shape the Dobriansky family now that he is gone. He grew up playing the sport he loved, supported his wife as a player, and was thrilled to have a talented son to carry on the tradition.

He will deeply missed by his wife of 42 years, Karen, and his children, Adam (Carly) and Kirsten (Sameer), four grandchildren and brother Rusty (Kathy). Our sincere sympathies are extended to his entire family, friends, and teammates.

A celebration of Roman's life will take place privately for family at a future date.
