Terry Garrow, who starred with the University of Manitoba Bisons in the 1980s and was inducted into our Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 2015, was in Winnipeg recently to play in the Battle for Turtle Island Tournament at the University of Winnipeg.
While in our city, he also visited our Hall of Fame and Museum. A few years back, Terry, who is of Mohawk descent and now lives in Hamilton, where he teaches Indigenous Studies, made a significant donation of clippings and other memorabilia to our Hall of Fame and Museum. Those materials have now been mounted and organized into two large binders that are a great record of his five years as a Bison, 1984-1988. We are very grateful to Terry and to many others who have decided that their materials need to be housed with us, where they will be preserved for eternity rather than be lost forever.
While he was in Winnipeg, Terry also met with many former teammates and coaches and continued promoting his campaign to have his father, Alex Garrow, a true pioneer of Indigenous basketball, inducted into the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame.
Winnipeg Free Press reporter Joshua Frey-Sam wrote an article about Terry and his father, and it can be found at the following link:
