A graduate of Sudbury Secondary High School in Sudbury, Ontario, Sandra played at Brandon University. As a Bobcat, Sandra was a 2-time Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) All-Canadian in 1992 and 1993. A consistently high scorer, Sandra was the CIS top scorer in 1992 with a 22.5 points per game average. In 1992, Sandra also was the recipient of the Harry Jerome Award as the best female black athlete in Canada.

After graduation, Sandra played semi-pro basketball in Spain and England. She also had tryouts with several teams in the WNBA.
