The Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame and Museum and Basketball Manitoba are saddened to share the news on the passing of Ed Dearden. Nicknamed "Steady Eddie" by his colleagues, Ed was a sportswriter for the Winnipeg Tribune for almost 30 years. He covered and reported on all aspects of amateur basketball, particularly in the 1950's.
A true friend of basketball, he promoted Junior, Senior, and University basketball at every opportunity. Ed was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame as a Builder in 1994 and is one of only a very few media people who have ever been recognized for their outstanding contributions to the game of basketball in Manitoba.
Ed died at age 96 in Winnipeg on March 29. Our most sincere sympathies go out to Ed’s family and friends.
